Issue 84: NBA Players Are just Like Us

Today’s email will be pretty simple. If your week has been anything like mine, there’s been a LOT going on.

We’ve certainly accomplished big things. Personally, I’ve knocked out some good articles, designed a new shirt, did a bit of cleaning around the house, and made some phenomenal pesto sauce with a plant I grew in my backyard. It’s almost like I know what I’m doing!

But I also ran into plenty of snafus along the way. Technology was like, “oh, you want me to work today? Hard pass” and consistently introduced challenges to getting things done. I barely drove this week but when I did, the entire metropolitan area seemed to be on the road at the same time.

It can be easy to harp on our failures and obstacles, but I want you to think about something you accomplished this week.

I don’t care how minuscule it seems, if it was something on your list that you crossed off (physically or metaphorically), I want you to celebrate it.

Feel free to share it with me, too. I love hearing about successes.

And if you do have to replay something you failed at in your mind, don’t worry too much about it. We all stumble. In fact, sometimes those moments happen when it seems like nothing at all could go wrong.

We’re cruising along, doing something we’ve done a hundred times before. Yet…it still ends poorly. That’s okay, we’ll dust ourselves off and try again.

If anyone can hammer that message home, it’s NBA players. This video is simply those players missing wide-open shots.

Whether it’s Manu Ginobili hitting the side of the backboard or Brandon Knight blowing an uncontested layup and then crashing to the floor like a misshapen game of Jenga, NBA players can fail just like we do. That knowledge is comforting.

Also, please take note of how many people fall down in this compilation. As someone who routinely trips over the sidewalk, I appreciate their tumbling in solidarity.
